The Microbiology department isolates the organisms causing infections and then tests to determine the best antibiotic treatment for the causative bacteria. This includes testing for:

• Urinary Tract Infections
• Diarrhoeal illness and Intestinal Parasites
• Causes of blood, wound, skin, respiratory and genital infections
• Fertility and post-vasectomy checks on seminal fluid

The department also coordinates an Infection Control advisory and training service.
